Literature Text

I sat beside       A solemn tree
Aged and blackened       All through winter
The roots anchored in       By a rusting crust
Now all that blooms       Out beneath it
Just a rosebud       Rising gently
Encrusted with       A crown of ruby
Another attempt at old english verse in modenr english

At first, I thought that the divided structure meant that I had to read it from up to down, not left to right. But silly me, I'm not familiar with it. Although, the fact that the form of this poem is divided that way, it gives a clearer signal to me of how I should read it. I read it aloud, I know where and when I should stop, and the words sounded lovely in my ear. The wide spaces acts as if its an invisible comma. Which is very interesting.

I love the part where you say "By a rusting crust" because that is only when I realized that the tree is growing older, not when you say "Aged and blackened". I'm not sure why but I feel like its too early, in that poem, to tell the readers that the tree is growing old. Because it never caught my attention when it was mentioned there in the second verse.

Aside from that, I love how you use such short, simple words that are straight-to-the-point. You made it in a way that it is not boring when the reader reads it and it remains a constant, sweet tempo. Whats more amazing is the vivid imaginary that you successively created inside my mind with this piece. Such a gorgeous rosebud and an even beautiful poem.
